WHEEL PROBLEMS
Norsk

Problem 1

You have problems putting on the front wheels.

It can be difficult to put in the wheel bolts if the two small bolts that keeps the brake disc in place are gone (broken). The brake disc is then loose, and even when turning it into the correct position it is easy to twist it when you put on the wheel, making it impossible to get in the bolts.

You can then do this:

  1. Twist the brake disc in position.
  2. Screw in a wheel bolt for steel rims.
  3. Tighten the hand brakes.
  4. Take out the wheel bolt.
  5. Replace the wheel.

Problem 2

You have problems putting on the alloy wheels.

Remove the little cap at the center of the wheel.

Problem 3

You get nasty noises and banging from the front wheels after getting new tires on the alloy rims.

This can happen if the one who mounted the new tires has put balance weights on the inside of the rim, so that the hand brake wire scrapes the wights.
You must then do this: Pull up the hand brake lever just so much that the noise goes away, and drive to a place where it is possible to park. Take off the front wheels and remove the weights. Or if the end of the hand brake wire scrapes the rim, you saw off the end (I guess you always keep a good hacksaw in the car?).

Get the wheels balanced again, but now with balance weights only on the outside, or a little further into the inside of the rim.
Make sure that the hand brakes are not damaged.

The end of the hand brake cable.

Here we see that the end of the hand brake cable has been scraping the rim.

Problem 4

You hear a clack-clack-clack-sound from one of the wheels.

This may be because the wheel is about to fall off.

  1. Slow down.
  2. Stop as soon as you can.
  3. Tighten the bolts on all 4 wheels.

• Make sure you have put on the correct bolts. Bolts for steel rims and alloy rims are usually of different length.
