Finally, the hydraulic

— it will not do without

1954

15-Six (Traction Avant 15CV Six H) gets hydraulic suspension on the rear wheels, and softer suspension at the front.

1955

DS 19. Already the first day it is ordered 12,000 cars, and the expected delivery time by the day's end has come up to 15 months. The first half year there is somewhat terrible with "childhood diseases", and at the plant it feels almost like a nightmare. Especially leaks in the hydraulic system is a major problem; among other things, seals are pressed into place with screwdrivers, and thus destroyed the moment they are put in!

1957

ID19, a simpler and cheaper version of the DS19. Amongst other things no hydraulic assistance on the gearbox, brakes and steering.
After 23 years production of the Traction is stopped.

1958

DS19 Prestige, luxury model with a pane of glass between the front and rear.

1959

DS19 break and ID19 break, station wagons. Unlike recent station wagons, these are pretty special and good looking at the rear. There are two tailgates, one upper and one lower. And they are prepared for two number plates, so that the bottom one may be open while driving! Convenient when transporting long objects. There are also two additional seats, ingeniously laid down in the floor!
Unfortunately there are no covers over the rear wheels.

1960

DS19 Cabriolet.
2CV Sahara, 4-wheel drive with two motors; one at the front and one at the rear. Petrol filling through the doors.

1961

Ami 6. Funny nice-looking small car with rear window that slopes inward and strange front part. Air-cooled engine with two cylinders, 602 cc, 20 HP at 4500 RPM and top speed of 105 km/h.

1962

DS19 gets new front section with less air resistance.

1963

DS19 Pallas.
Ami 6 break. Two versions, Tourisme and Confort with four or five seats, and une commerciale.
The front doors on the 2CV are now hinged at the front.
Seat belts are now available on all models.

1964

DS21.

1965

The red hydraulic fluid is replaced by colorless synthetic LHS-2.
Citroën buys Panhard.

1966

LHM (green hydraulic fluid) replaces the LHS-2.

2CV 2CV 2CV.

1967

Dyane. Air-cooled engine with two cylinders, 425 cc, 21 HP at 5500 RPM and top speed of 100 km/h.
DS and ID gets a new front, with glass in front of the headlights (with pivoting beams). (Looks very much like the front of the Panhard 24;)

DS DS DS.

1968

Citroën purchases Maserati.
Dyane 6.
Méhari.
DS20 replaces DS19, and ID20 replaces ID19.

1969

Ami 8 replaces Ami 6.
DS21. DS finally gets an engine with pep (injection): The effect increases from 115 to 139 HP. But also a less nice dashboard (with three round clocks) that do not fit the car at all.
D Super replaces ID20.

1970

GS. The world's most advanced small/medium class car.
SM sees the light of day. A sporty Citroën with six-cylinder Maserati engine. A crazy (expensive) idea that is partly responsible for the end of the Michelin–Citroën period. (Albeit an idea we don't want to be without;)

1971

GS is Car of the Year.
Helicopter RE2.

1972

DS23 replaces DS21. Larger engine: 124 HP with carburetor, and 141 HP with fuel injection. Height-adjustable driver's seat. Eventually, the ultimate DS (with the exception of the dashboard)!
SM gets electronic ignition.

1973

Ami Super.
SM Automatic.
The collaboration between Citroën and Maserati ceases.
