Sorts

• New unstudded tires should first run for a time on asphalt to get less slippery.
• New studded tires must at first be run wery carefully so that the spikes get well seated.


Summer tires

  • Minimum tread depth: 1,6 mm.
  • Minimum tread depth during the winter: 3 mm.

Unstudded winter tires

  • Minimum tread depth during the winter: 3 mm.
  • Should NOT be used during the summer! Nor are they especially good during winter.

Studded tires

  • Minimum tread depth: 3 mm.
  • If you are using studded tires you must use them on all wheels.
  • If you have studded tires on your vehicle you should also have the same on the car trailer.
  • Studded tires are permitted to use from November 1. until the first Sunday after 2. Easter day. In the three northernmost counties studded tires are allowed to use from October 16. to April 30. It is also otherwise allowed to use studded tires and snow chains when the roads are slippery.
  • In some cities (Oslo, Bergen), you must pay the penalty for driving with studded tires.
  • In Germany studded tires are prohibited, and in Switzerland and Austria studded tires are prohibited on motorways.


• If your summer tires have less than 3 mm tread depth, you must be extra careful on wet asphalt.

• Studless snow tires gets much longer stopping distance than summer tires when the temperature gets above
7℃.

• In winter it is ALWAYS better to use studded tires than studless snow tyres.
